I took a surfing lesson my senior year of high school down in La Jolla. I was heading to TN for college as a competitive swimmer and it seemed like I should know how to surf if I was going to be the CA girl. After college I worked at a camp in Santa Cruz where I spent the summer surfing in the morning and working all day. That's where I met my husband, a local and life long surfer. He came out with us almost every session that summer. Two years after we got married he got sick. And he's been sick for the last 12 years. Surfing was the thing we did together and suddenly I had to figure out what my relationship to surfing would be. I started going out by myself which I had never done before and slowly built my confidence. And then I started making friends and building such an amazing community and surfing has been a huge part of making life good.
